Improving Presentation Delivery using PowerPoint
A workshop combining delivery skills with some PowerPoint training. Because
of the scope of the material to be covered and the time available, this
course DOES NOT deal with preparation of presentations. It is NOT a beginners
course - please see pre-requisites.
Duration: One Day
Pre-requisites:
Delegates must have had some presentation experience. They will then
naturally have an idea of the delivery problems they need to deal with.
It is assumed that they know the basics of how to write and structure
a presentation.
Delegates must also know the basics of PowerPoint and have at least prepared
basic slides (bullets, charts and tables) using PowerPoint. They will
be asked to bring a PowerPoint file with them containing such slides which
will become the presentation they deliver.
Objectives:
To develop individual presentation styles through building on existing
verbal and non-verbal skills
To deliver a short presentation to build confidence and to practise style
and techniques
To consider contingency plans for dealing with nerves
To learn to handle Microsoft PowerPoint in order to run the show
Each person will have the opportunity to make a short presentation, of
about 5 minutes, in a supportive and informal environment.
Designed for
Anyone who is required to make a work-based presentation. Whilst such
people may know their presentation topic inside-out, improving their delivery
and assessing reaction from the audience should be a personal development
need.
Workshop style
Highly participative: the process starts before the workshop when participants
will be expected to select and review an existing presentation they have
previously written using PowerPoint - they should bear in mind that they
will need material for an approximately 5 minute presention.
With tutor guidance, partcipants will review good delivery technique,
involving the use of PowerPoint, and then have the opportunity to practise
it. This will be done in a step-by-step approach to build confidence.
This could also involve training in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint if
needed (see separate outline).
The presentations will be carried out in small groups, with a tutor on
hand to facilitate, give support and feedback on which further development
can be based.
