Objectives
The Introductory course will enable delegates to:
- Create and print display documents in A4 and other paper sizes
to produce brochures, cards, menus, and newsletters
- Incorporate graphics, such as scanned files, and graphic effects
We also run an Advanced Workshop for Existing Users - see below
for content - to cover tools used for greater productivity and commercial
output.
An Introductory One Day Course
- Starting MS Publisher: Catalog and Wizards, The MS Publisher
Environment, Page Setup, Adding and deleting Pages
- Saving, Opening, and Closing Files, Printing, Printer Setup
- Changing Views: Two Page Spreads, Zoom Control, Special Characters/Non
Printing Symbols, Boundaries, Guides and Rulers, View Options
for Pictures
- Objects in your Publication: Adding, Deleting, Aligning, Arranging,
Formatting Text
- Navigation - Page navigation icons, using Page navigation icons
to move, copy, insert or rename pages
- Find and Replace (across a whole publication)
- Selection, editing and deletion
- Formatting: Fonts and Paragraphs, Bulleted and Numbered Lists,
Tabs & Leader Characters, Drop Caps; Formatting Text Frames:
vertical alignment, CopyFit, Borders, Shading, Shadow Effects,
Margins, Grids, Columns; Format Painter; AutoFormat as you Type
- Text Styles: Applying, Changing, Deleting, Renaming, Creating,
and Importing; New Line vs. New Paragraph; Inserting Text &
Styles from Other Files; Numbered Headings
- Spelling:Automatic Spelling Check; Spelling Options; AutoCorrect
- Master Pages - introduction, Applying/changing master pages
Working on Master (Background) Pages: Headers and Footers; Page

Pre-requisites
This course pre-supposes that delegates are already using other
desktop applications to some extent e.g. Word, PowerPoint, and are
therefore familiar with basic file management concepts and the Windows
environment.
Advanced Workshop for Existing Users
This section is run on a customised basis and would cover topics
such as:
- Recapping on a selection of items from the previous course
- Master Pages - advanced; Multiple master pages in one publication
- Printing - advanced: Printing Files and print options for commercial
printing, printing Crop Marks
- Advanced Formatting: Baselines, colour scheme; Text Frames -
AutoFlow and connected Frames
- Merging in Publisher: To produce documents carrying mailing
and other details, recorded in MS Publisher or other data sources.
Produce merged documents (Catalog Merge) carrying multiple records
- CD/DVD Labels: Produce personalised CD labels
- Web Site Support Tools: Build a web site, adding/editing pages,
customising pages - saving your web site
